The Elijazzen Festival in Lofoten recently announced their headliner for 2019: Mari Boine, a famous Norwegian Sami and Jazz musician! You can check out last year’s headliners, Polish group Wojtek Mazolewski, below:
This boutique festival is held every year, with this year’s dates set for April 26th to 28th, 2019. Truly unique, the Elijazzen festival experience combines Game of Thrones surroundings with the drama of amazing artistry, excellent sea food and a party vibe where artists and culture lovers mingle over a Lofoten-pilsner! Here are a few tips to prepare for the festival:
- Look out for our limited-edition festival package in the next week! In addition to a 2-day festival pass and accommodation in traditional rorbu cabins, it includes and day trip by boat to remote Vinstad, where Scandinavian cool electronica artists Kristoffer Eikrem & Bendik Baksaas will set the sounds to snow capped mountains and white beaches surrounding you. This is all after you’ve had your seat in the famous throne whale one located on Bunes beach, one of Lofoten’s most spectacular beaches and only accessible by foot or boat.
- Know your fish, especially cod! Spring is prime time for anything fishy! Lofoten has a centuries long history as the cod eldorado of the world, and still supplies it’s famous stock fish, salted dried cod, or bacalao as the Portugese like to call it to all the world continenets. Eat like a local and dig in to what the sea has on offer, and if you want to even rent a fishing rod and a small boat and fish your own: To be eaten quay-side, on traditional Norwegain flatbread with butter and a local beer!
- Eat at the best local places. We recommended Maren Anna’s and Anita’s Seafood! Try the sea food burgers and look out for dried cod chandeliers: Definitely as unique and interior items as you will ever get to Instagram!
- Pack sunnies (but no need for suncream). At this time of year you still need your thermals and a warm coat on hand, but you’ll likely need your sunnies too against that blinding bright light shining onto crystal water and snow capped peaks! Think ski holiday in March but without the crowds, the silly lifts and ……pretty much everything else!
