Head north to the Arctic to experience remote living, a 1hr boat ride from Bodø. Serene landscapes combined with stunning architecture provide you with comfort in paradise. Located on an island of the Fleinvær archipelago, the hideaway boasts 5 expertly crafted and eco-friendly cabins. First bought in 2004, the island was originally intended as a personal workspace for owner Håvard Lund, jazz musician and composer. He teamed up with TYIN and Rintala Eggertsson architects to complete the project. As time went by, Håvard felt he had to share this piece of paradise with the world. Now, you can book the island for your own getaway to relax and recharge.
Perfect for 2 – 15 people, the Arctic Hideaway includes 5 cabins. For the best experience, book the whole space and enjoy the serenity of having a whole island to yourself! Available accommodation:
Your caretaker will be on the island to meet you at the dock upon arrival. They make sure everything runs smoothly throughout your stay and can give guidance on facilities and living on the island. There is no restaurant, but there are kitchen and dining facilities. An open pantry is available with ingredients for continental breakfasts, warm lunches, and a variation of dinners.
Any special dietary requirements should be mentioned upon booking. Please bring your own alcohol. There are no shops on the island, so make you sure you buy enough supplies in Bodø! Alternatively, you can request a chef from Bodø to prepare your meals for more traditional northern Norwegian cuisine.
Please let us know your interests in advance if you want to arrange any guided activities during your stay. Activities possible around the island include:
Apart from your caretaker, there are no other people or services on the island, to make the most of your isolation from the world. Though we recommend going off-grid for the best experience, there is Wi-Fi available if needed. Due to its location it can be cold even in summer, so pack woollen clothing as well as wind- and water-proof gear. Add a pair of shorts for the sauna! Facilities for use on the island include:
The closest airport is Bodø Airport, with direct flights from Oslo. Ferries to Fleinvær run from the port of Bodø right beside the airport. There are an average of 2 daily departures to and from the island. Either we can help you with the public ferry timetable, or if you’re a larger group then you can add your own chartered boat to pick you up at your requested time.
NB: There may be days with heavy winds which can cause transport delays and/or cancellations. Combine your trip with the urban life in Bodø and spend a night there before or after your stay. We recommend booking a minimum of two nights at the Arctic Hideaway to get the best out of purples skies, Northern Lights, and all the other amazing scenery the island has to offer.
