A few days ago, the first orca whale sightings in Arctic Norway were captured around Lyngen! We are thankful for this, as natural phenomena are still unpredictable. The return of the hump backs and orcas to Arctic Norway is never certain, as they follow the mighty shoals of herring they feed on. To our delight, the herring decided that the Lyngen area in Northern Norway is worth a visit this season, and the whales are following suit! Anyone going to Arctic Norway should consider a whale safari, or even a little snorkel with the orcas if you are brave enough.

In the past, hundreds of orcas and humpback whales were usually spotted hanging out around Tromsø and Kvaløya between November and the end of January. Last year they were further north in Troms, around Skjervøy, and this winter, you may even want to go to Svalbard eventually to see them. Seeing these magnificent creatures back in Troms right now is wonderful, and from experience, we can say that getting up close and personal to these magnificent sea creatures is the most incredible memory to have in a world where we need reminding how small we are!
