Manshausen – Your own quiet island paradise. 55 acres, situated in the middle of the Grøtøya strait, only 500 meters from the small village Nordskot. With its well-protected harbour, Manshausen was in its time an important and bustling part of the old trading post, Grøtøy, established in 1698. Kayaking, diving, cycling, climbing, and hiking has now taken over as the most popular activities. Steigen represents a unique destination for such activities. Hundreds of small islands with white sandy beaches and spectacular mountains. To the north, the Lofoten islands act as a protective wall.

- The master bedroom has a 160 cm double bed.
- The guest room a 140 cm bed and a “trundle” single bed (90 cm x 2.00) underneath.
- All huts have a Corian bathroom and kitchen.

The building was completed in 2015. It has a conference room, with a projector and sound, designed for up to 30 people. There are 6 sleeping alcoves, a bathroom, and a separate kitchen.

- Hiking trips: The area offers great hikes for all levels and difficulties. Easy strolls or spectacular breath-taking traverses.
- Rock Climbing: The cliffs consist of red granite and offer superb rock climbing. All difficulties.
- Diving: Many possibilities for diving, especially snorkelling. The water is shallow and accessible with mask and snorkel. The water is clear most of the year, especially during winter and springtime. A diving compressor, diving led, bottles and snorkelling equipment is available for rent. For scuba diving, please bring your own diving equipment and certificate.
- Fishing: Fish has always been a part of the Manshausen story. There are several good spots nearby. Halibut is one of the favourites, and in springtime migrating cod comes down from the Barents Sea to spawn in the West Fjord. Pollock and mackerel are also common.
- Caving: The cave Resshola, (the troll cave) at Nordskot is about half an hour away. The paths going up to the cave are rough so you need good boots, headlamps can be borrowed.
- Skiing: The best season for alpine ski trips is March – April. The area around Norfolda, is half an hour by boat. It offers great conditions in snow-covered mountain slopes. There is even a glacier in Steigen, Helldalsisen, at 1320 metres. Several of the summits nearby are only accessible by boat.

Battery Dietl
During World War II, the Germans built one of Europe’s largest coastal fortifications at Grådusan on Engeløya. Here stood three enormous Adolf guns, which could fire across the Vestfjord. Several thousand Russian prisoners of war worked at the facility and over five hundred had to pay with their lives. Bunkers and fortifications are across the entire area. Apart from the cannons, that was removed, the plant is well preserved and the museum is open during the summer season.
